Milan to Portofino private transfer,
with English-speaking chauffeur.

Portofino is the most exclusive harbour village on the Italian Riviera — the Piazzetta, Castello Brown, the lighthouse walk, the Splendido. About 2 hours from Milan by car: a private chauffeur transfer is the most comfortable choice because Portofino has no train station — the railway stops at Santa Margherita Ligure, 5 km away, and the village itself is closed to ordinary traffic.

Milan to Portofino by train — and where it falls short

The train is a reasonable option for light travellers. Trains run from Milano Centrale to “S. Margherita Ligure-Portofino” — Intercity and Frecciabianca direct, or Regionale with a change in Genoa — and the fastest direct services take about 2h05 (more typically 2h18–3h). There are roughly 21–23 trains a day, about one an hour, with tickets from around €12–16 if you book ahead.

The catch is in the station name: it sits in Santa Margherita Ligure, about 5 km from Portofino. For the last leg you take the AMT electric bus 782 (about 17 minutes, €5.00 single fare, more frequent in summer), the Tigullio boat from Santa Margherita (about 15 minutes, €6–10) or a local taxi — luggage in tow at every step.

A private transfer covers the whole journey door-to-door in about 2 hours: one car from your Milan hotel or the airport straight to the coast, your chauffeur handles the bags, and the price is a fixed quote agreed in advance on WhatsApp.

Hotels we serve in Portofino and Santa Margherita Ligure

We operate for the luxury hotels of the Tigullio coast, with Meet & Greet at reception and drop-off as close to the pedestrian village as access rules allow:

  • 🏛️ Splendido, A Belmond Hotel, Portofino — the former monastery on the hillside above the bay
  • 🏛️ Splendido Mare, A Belmond Hotel, Portofino — 14 rooms and suites right on the Piazzetta
  • 🏛️ Imperiale Palace Hotel — Santa Margherita Ligure, 5-star in an 1889 villa
  • 🏛️ Grand Hotel Miramare — historic late-19th-century 5-star on the Santa Margherita seafront
  • 🏛️ Private villas and residences in Portofino, Paraggi and along the coast

Why a private transfer is the best choice for Portofino

  • No train station in Portofino — the railway stops at Santa Margherita Ligure, 5 km away; public transport finishes with a bus, boat or local taxi. A private transfer goes straight to your hotel.
  • No parking stress — the village is pedestrian, with a permanent camera-controlled ZTL and only paid parking in Piazza della Libertà; on spring and summer weekends the SP227 coastal road backs up. With a chauffeur you are simply dropped off.
  • Direct airport service — Malpensa to Portofino in about 2h40–3h, plus pickups at Linate and Bergamo, with flight monitoring and Meet & Greet.
  • Full-day chauffeur — combine Portofino with Santa Margherita, Rapallo, Camogli and the boat to San Fruttuoso with the same driver.
