How much does a taxi cost to and from Milan airports

The public Milan taxi fares next to a fixed NexaRide NCC quote.

The figures below are the public Milan taxi fares, regulated by the City of Milan — not NexaRide prices.

NexaRide is an NCC service (private hire with driver, by advance booking only): our price is a fixed quote agreed before the ride, never a meter. We show the official taxi tariffs here so you can compare honestly.

Source: the fixed airport taxi fares and the urban meter tariff are set by the City of Milan (last updated July 2024); always check the tariff displayed in the taxi. A fixed taxi fare only exists on a handful of airport routes; on everything else the taxi runs on an open meter, so the price is variable. An NCC is always a fixed price, known before departure.

Linate taxi: why there is no fixed fare

Unlike Malpensa and Orio, the taxi from Linate to Milan centre has no fixed fare — it runs on the meter.

The cost depends on traffic and the time of day, and you only know it on arrival (roughly €20-30, variable; a €16 minimum applies on airport runs). The only fixed fares involving Linate are Linate ↔ Fiera Milano Rho at €68 and Linate ↔ Malpensa at €128 — not the route to the city centre.

NexaRide, Linate ↔ Milan centre, runs at a fixed price agreed in advance, known before you set off, whatever the traffic or the hour. See our dedicated Linate airport transfer page.

When the taxi is the right choice

  • Short urban trip, no booking needed.
  • Solo traveller with light luggage.
  • Daytime, central Milan with plenty of taxis at every stand.
  • Malpensa–Milan centre route at €114 fixed (city ordinance) — comparable to NCC for a single passenger.

When a private chauffeur (NCC) is better

  • Fixed price in advance — no surprises, no language barrier on the meter.
  • Night flights, early morning, holidays when taxis are scarce.
  • Groups of 5+ passengers — Van service available (taxis cap at 4).
  • Meet & Greet at the airport — driver waiting with a name sign, helps with luggage.
  • Longer routes: Lake Como, Bergamo Orio al Serio, business events outside Milan.
  • Business / VIP comfort — Mercedes-Benz fleet, professional dress code, discretion.
  • English-speaking driver guaranteed — important for international travellers.
  • Invoicing for business expense reporting.

Milan taxi fares explained: meter, night and holiday surcharges

How the public Milan taxi meter works in the city. Regulated municipal rates, not NexaRide prices.

Meter elementPublic taxi rate (City of Milan)
Flag-drop (initial charge)€4.10 weekday daytime · €6.60 holiday daytime · €7.90 night (22:00-06:00)
Per kilometre€1.32 (up to ~€17.35 on the meter), then €1.98
Waiting / stationary time€34.48 per hour
Minimum on airport runs€16.00

Night and holiday surcharges apply to the urban meter, not to the fixed airport fares (Malpensa €114, Orio €128), which are flat at any hour. At night the taxi starts from a higher flag-drop and taxis are scarcer; a pre-booked NCC keeps the same fixed price at any hour. A luggage supplement is not published with a confirmed fixed value on the official sources we checked, so we won't invent one.

Taxi or private chauffeur: which is really worth it, route by route

Two distinct, fully legitimate services. The honest answer depends on the route.

Common misconceptions

"I can hail an NCC on the street like Uber"

By Italian law NCC operates only on advance booking, departing from a licensed garage. They cannot pick up passengers on the street. This isn't a service limitation — it's a legal regulation.

"Uber works the same way as in the US"

In Italy Uber operates only as Uber Black, a partnership with NCC licence holders. It's not the same as the US service — booking required, fixed-price logic, no UberX in most cities.

"Private chauffeur is always more expensive"

For 2+ passengers or longer routes the price is comparable to a taxi, with the advantage of knowing the cost in advance and getting better vehicles.

FAQ

What is NCC exactly?+
"Noleggio Con Conducente" — private hire vehicle / professional chauffeur service. Licensed by municipalities, regulated under law 21/1992. Pre-booked only, fixed price.
When is taxi better?+
Short urban trips, no booking, solo travel, daytime. Fixed Malpensa–Milan centre fare of €114 is also competitive.
When is private chauffeur better?+
Night flights, groups, luggage, longer routes, business needs, English-speaking driver guaranteed.
Cost comparison?+
Short trips: taxi cheaper. Longer/airport/group routes: comparable, but private chauffeur is fixed-price upfront.
Can I street-hail NCC?+
No — by law it's advance booking only. WhatsApp is the fastest channel.
Payment methods?+
Cards, cash, bank transfer, Apple/Google Pay accepted by NexaRide.
How much does a taxi cost from Malpensa to Milan?+
The Malpensa–Milan centre taxi fare is €114 fixed per vehicle (up to 4 passengers), set by the City of Milan: it's a public fare, not a NexaRide price. As a fixed-price NCC alternative, ask us for a quick WhatsApp quote.
Is the Malpensa taxi fare per person or per vehicle?+
Per vehicle: €114 covers the whole car for up to 4 passengers, not €114 each. For 3–4 people with luggage a private-chauffeur Van at an agreed price can be worth it — message us on WhatsApp.
Does the taxi from Linate to Milan have a fixed price?+
No. Unlike Malpensa and Orio, the Linate–Milan centre taxi runs on the meter with no fixed fare: the cost depends on traffic and time of day (roughly €20–30). NexaRide instead offers Linate–Milan at a fixed price, agreed in advance and known before you leave.
How much is a taxi at night in Milan?+
At night (22:00–06:00) the taxi starts from a higher flag-drop (€7.90 vs €4.10 on weekday daytime) and taxis are scarcer. Night surcharges don't apply to the fixed airport fares. A pre-booked private chauffeur keeps the same fixed price at any hour.
Is a taxi or a private chauffeur better from the airport?+
It depends on the route. For Malpensa the taxi has a fixed €114 per-vehicle fare; for Linate it's a variable meter, while NexaRide NCC offers a fixed quote agreed in advance on WhatsApp. For groups, night travel or bulky luggage, a pre-booked private chauffeur with a fixed price and Meet & Greet is often the calmer choice.
