The dark window: what runs and what does not

The Malpensa Express covers the day superbly (a train roughly every 15 minutes), but night is a different planet.

The last ordinary runs to Milan leave shortly after 11 pm; on weekends Trenord adds extra runs from Malpensa until about 1:50 am, and a night road connection leaves around 1:30 am. Then darkness: between roughly 2:00 and 4:30 am there is no rail in either direction.

The detail that catches people landing at 22:45: taxiing, passport control and baggage reclaim often eat 30-45 minutes. The last train that looks catchable on paper very often is not.

Taxis and apps after midnight

Prices are not the problem. Availability is.

OptionNight priceThe catch
Taxi114 € fixed Malpensa→Milan centre (Comune di Milano), unchanged at any hourAt 3 am the taxi rank may be nearly empty: a certain fare is useless if there is no car
Ride-hailing appsDynamic pricingFewer active drivers at night: longer waits and rising prices exactly when you are tired with luggage

A note on tariffs: Milan's meter night supplements (7.90 € flag drop from 22:00 to 6:00, versus 4.10 € daytime) apply to urban metered rides, not to fixed airport fares. Source: Comune di Milano tariff schedule.

How a pre-booked night transfer actually works

What makes the pre-booked transfer the robust option for night arrivals is not comfort: it is flight monitoring.

  • ✈️ Monitored flight: give us the flight number and the pickup adjusts to the real landing time - flight delays never count against you, at no extra cost.
  • ⏱️ First hour included: from the actual landing, the first hour of waiting is included in the price - slow passport queues and late bags do not become an extra.
  • 💶 Same price at any hour: the quote agreed in advance does not change whether you land at 3 pm or 3 am.

The 3 night-arrival mistakes

The ones that turn a 2 am landing into a long night.

  • 🚆 Betting on the "last train" with no margin. Disembarking, passport control and bags eat 30-45 minutes: land after 22:30 and the last Express is a gamble, not a plan.
  • 📱 Deciding after you land. At 3 am supply is at its minimum on every channel: few taxis at the rank, few drivers on the apps. It is the worst possible moment to improvise.
  • 🗓️ Not sharing your flight number. Without monitoring, a one-hour delay can turn into a missed pickup. With the flight monitored, the car adjusts on its own.

Frequently asked questions

Until what time do trains run from Malpensa to Milan?+
The Malpensa Express runs roughly every 15 minutes until late evening: the last ordinary departures leave around 23:00-23:30. On weekends the service is extended with extra runs from Malpensa until about 1:50 am. Always check the Trenord timetable for your date: that is the official source.
How do I get to Milan if I land between 2:00 and 4:30 am?+
That is the no-rail window: the first morning Malpensa Express leaves Cadorna at 4:27 and airport-bound rail service resumes at dawn. What remains: night road connections, a taxi (if you find one available) and a private car booked before you land.
How much is a taxi from Malpensa to Milan at night?+
The fixed Malpensa-Milan city fare is 114 € per car, set by the Comune di Milano, and it does NOT change at night: the meter's night supplements (7.90 € flag drop from 22:00 to 6:00) apply to urban metered rides, not to fixed airport fares. At night the problem is not the price - it is finding an available taxi.
Does a private chauffeur (NCC) cost more at night?+
With NexaRide, no: the quote is fixed and agreed in advance, at any hour. Night service must be booked ahead, like any NCC ride.
What happens if my night flight lands late?+
Give us your flight number and we monitor it: the driver adjusts the pickup at no extra cost - flight delays never count against you. From the actual landing, the first hour of waiting is included in the price.
Should I book my transfer before flying?+
For night arrivals, yes - it is the only way to be certain of the car: trains stop, taxis are scarce before dawn and the apps have fewer active drivers at night. A pre-booked car with flight monitoring waits for you whenever you land.
